How long does a divorce in California usually take?

A California divorce takes a minimum of six months.  If the divorce is
contested or orders regarding support, visitation or custody are sought,
then it is likely to take longer for a judgment to be reached.
What is the most cost effective way of obtaining a divorce?

You may choose to represent yourself (pro per) and complete and file
your own court documents.  Sacramento forms may be obtained online at
the
Sacramento County Superior Court.
It is always advisable that you hire an experienced attorney to represent
you, particularly if you have children; however, our office also offers
assistance with California divorce document preparation at a reduced
cost.  Mr. Matta also represents clients in a limited scope at certain
stages or aspects of the divorce process.  Call our office for details at
(916) 760-3244.
What are the grounds for divorce in California?

In California, there are two grounds for divorce:  Irreconcilable
Differences and Incurable Insanity.  Irreconcilable Differences is the most
commonly used and means that the marriage is not working despite steps
taken to preserve it (including counseling).
